for house heads of a certain persuasion, dj duke is a name that resonates for all the right reasons. the u.s. veteran has been responsible for some of the 90’s most seminal moments, chiefly through tracks such as 12 minutes to do it (under his pleasure dome alias), party time and the prosumer-endorsed deep house classic, heard. he returns here courtesy of emerging imprint solo werks, who host his latest ep, green pastures. a momentous house-led workout, it compounds duke’s reputation as a producer of considerable panache while also acting as an auspicious start to life for the dublin based label. the title track is a grainy, old-school cut that bears all the hallmarks of a dusty analogue-jam and harks back to the days of vintage chicago with the sort of zest you’d expect from a man of duke’s credentials. the other original, skyscapes, is packed to the brim with industrial motifs and is characterised by the sort of effortlessly catchy baseline with which duke has made his name. mysterious and ethereal, it takes the listener on an uncompromising and throughly captivating house journey from the off. on the flip side, we have two stunning remixes, the first of which arrives from new jersey don, ruben candelario aka nicuri. a long-time favourite of nyc-based producers a la joey anderson, nicuri turns green pastures into a dreamy, acid-led space, adding layers of suspense and a glittering vocal intto the mix as he goes. last but not least are dublin-based producers slowburn, who serve up a stunning version of skyscapes. a carefully construed voyage into the deep, it caps off a fine ep with some aplomb.

we have encountered ice dog during one sunny belgrade afternoon while he was chasing what he was calling fish (actually slavic seniors transformed into dolphins and dolphin is not a fish). he might or might not told us the fore-coming story: a man complains of being hungry. all the time. dogs it seems are never hungry. so the man decides to become a dog. to be a dog one must walk on all fours. the hero decides to wear shoes on his hands only to discover that there is no hand left to tie the laces on the fourth shoe. what does a shoe-shod dog tie laces with? its mouth. organ by organ the man becomes a dog. one lace at a time his record transformed us into a new type of misunderstood creatures. most of the tracks are surprisingly fast and playable yet broken while others are groovy however noisy. i am pretty sure you havent heard anything like it before. but what do i know i’m a fish.

sterns edits returns after the sell-out success of its debut edition with another two catalogue reworks from ben gomori. this time he turns his attention to burkina faso s much-loved taxi-driver-turned-singer, amadou balaké. balaké ( porcupine in mandinka) is burkina faso s proudest musical export, and in 2013 he recorded his final album before passing away: in conclusion. the record saw him revisit some of his most popular tracks from his remarkable 50-year career, backed by an eight-piece burkinabé band who took the country s traditional sounds and brought them into a contemporary light. gomori retains the essence of the original recordings which were mostly captured in one take and marries them to vigorous afro-house stylings. bar konon mousso (musicien c est pas quelqu un) in which balaké tells of a bar lady being unimpressed by his profession, gets a gentle push towards the modern dancefloor, its wonderful sax lines resplendent. massa kamba is taken for a drive down the more traditional route, with commanding drums bolstering the original grooves and a marvelous triple harmony brass section at its core. balakes freewheeling style suits the hypnotic feel of the edits to a tee. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and london s ben gomori.

as huntleys + palmers events has drawn to a close, 2018 will see a big focus in releasing some brilliant new music and introducing some amazing new artists. first up is wheelman straight out of glasgow and fresh off the back of his debut for our studio barnhus buddies. to our shame, it took a kornel kovacs trip to rubadub to bring to our attention a real talent who was under our now the whole time! hed even been to a bunch of our parties and wed never made the connection. righting this wrong, we promptly hit him up for music to include on a clyde built compilation and they were so good, we designated the bulk of these tracks to this release 5 absolute belters!

fuckthegovernment.ltd is a label and is artist duo ran by f.t.g (alfredo trastulli) and music box head honcho, marco riff, two italians with a deep love of analogue-inspired house music and chicago sound. the labels latest once more arrives at us from the label owners, who combine with aplomb on the quite expertly named (ive seen) love from tokyo. for the first time ever, fuckthegovernment.ltd call on a remixer to give the package an extra sheen. in a move thats befitting of the standing for which the label is held, the guys have only gone and nabbed chi-town legend boo williams for remix duties. a killer dj tool that takes the listener on a proverbial journey of sound, his effort not a million miles away from classic williams productions a la mortal trance is sure to win plaudits from discerning house jocks aplenty. the original is an intricate and deep number thats laced with clever cowbells, warm pads and a sporadic vocal that really brings the heat. with such adept producers on show, its perhaps no surprise that fuckthegovernments latest serves up a masterclass in beautiful house music.

joran van pol is back on minus with edge, a fantastic four track ep that is his first on the label since 2013. in the years since, the amsterdam based artist has set up his own fade label and has continued to evolve his cinematic techno sound. previously, van pol has also released on labels like rejected, sci+tec and ideal audio, and has the support of all the big techno players who often reach for his tunes in their sets. as a dj he is just as in demand, with headline slots everywhere from space ibiza to time warp all behind him. having recently set up a new studio, he is still coming on strong with fresh inspiration and ever more essential grooves. ‘illos opens things with seven spooky minutes of icy techno. rolling rubbery drums pump away below, and the details up top make for an evocative soundscape with distant industrial sounds, groaning bass and razor sharp hi hats all filling your mind with imagery. next comes title track ‘edge, another brilliant sonic landscape with tense chords repeating over ticking percussion. its a track that builds tension throughout, and keeps you looking over your shoulder into the eerie blackness. the perfectly high pressure ‘return is one that locks you in and never lets up, with warped synths snaking above traintrack like drums and hits. a dark, rumbling bassline and the sounds of pistons releasing air all add to the intensity of this brainmelting bit of futuristic techno. last but not least, ‘frostbite is then the most spacious and spooky offering of the lot. it has freaky alien sound designs scattered around the track with supple kicks driving the whole thing forwards. its an absorbing cut that hurries along and takes you for a thrilling ride. these are four more inventive techno tracks from one of the contemporary scenes brightest stars.

beauty and the beast is the latest in the series of special limited edition david bowie 7- picture discs being released and will be out on 5th january 2018, almost 40 years to the day of its original release on 6th january 1978. beauty and the beast was the second single taken from the album heroes, the second of the berlin trilogy albums recorded with tony visconti and brian eno at the legendary hansa studios in berlin. the track also features robert fripp of king crimson on lead guitar, who claims that his guitar was all recorded in his first take. the a-side of the 7- picture disc features the track with newly remastered audio, mixed by long-time bowie collaborator tony visconti. the aa-side is a previously unreleased live version of blackout, recorded live at deutschlandhalle, berlin on 16th may 1978 during the isolar ii tour.

the legendary moscow club propaganda celebrates its 20th anniversary in april 2017 and launches a brand new record label. the label will cover different styles of intelligent electronic music, focusing on techno in the first year. at the beginning there will be released music by great artists who had performances at propaganda club in past. more artists will be involved and more excellent music will be released over time.

cosmic walkers ep is the 12th release on informa records, this time from french parisian duo kas:st showcasing their emotional, mental and modern take on techno. owners of flyance records and with an excellent catalogue of releases on labels such as taapion, concrete music & blocaus series we are happy to welcome them to the informa family. to close the release we have the return of takaaki itoh who has provided a more stripped hypnotic take of endless exodus.

on this split ep, two-heads project minimum syndicat is back again with its own special brand of hard acid music, mixing authentic rave influences and modern industrialish techno to reach this state of dark euphoria who became its trademark. this time, their guest is the famous irish producer sunil sharpe, another figure not known to make any compromise... he delivers two severe cuts of techno and electro full of raw energy, with a sinister vibe reflecting the dirty clubs and warehouses where this music is supposed to be played.

originally a heavy metal drummer, bård aasen lødemel aka skatebård, got into techno and rave during the 90s. hailing from a small town called Ørsta on the norwegian west coast, lødemel moved to bergen where he quickly became part of the student town s growing club scene. after handing over a homemade demo to tellé records label boss mikal telle, lødemel got signed to tellé offshoot label tellektro in 2001. his first release under the name of skatebård, a 12- mini album called -skateboarding was a crime (in 1989)- was released in 2002, and skatebård s reputation as an excellent techno/electro producer started to spread beyond norway s borders. since then skatebård has gone on to release on labels such as sex tags mania, radius records, supersoul recordings, keys of life finland, luna flicks, totally as well as his own digitalo enterprises. -skateboarding was a crime (in 1989)- was pressed in a very limited edition and sold out quickly. since then it has been a desired object for record collectors and techno and electro aficionados around the globe. now the time has come to make the mini album available again, something this true masterpiece really deserves.

optimo music don’t generally do limited edition releases but when the golden filter did these extra mixes of “end of times”, the a1 track off their recent ep we thought they were too good to remain in the digital domain so have pressed up a small run of 12” singles aimed specifically at djs. the original single version is a future synth classic. these new dub versions take it to the dancefloor and have been tried and tested around the world over the last few months. they are considerably extended, dubbed out and add extra dynamics & ecstatic synth power with hints of the original vocal. there is a slo mo version at 103 bpm and a faster version at 118bpm which means the track should work any time from warm up to peak set. there is also a drone-apella version included too.

winter, or a time which represents that season, in a metropole that appears to be moscow. the visitor is taking metro no. 6 at leninsky prospect as he is on his way to the ballroom close to gorky park. the air is icy, the sky is grey. a cat, previously hidden among the dirty snow, is crossing his way. the closer he gets to his destination, the clearer he can hear music, music that reminds him of future days. the dimly lit room is only sparsely filled. on stage a graceful singer, capturing the room with her presence. captive voices merge with chords played on yet unknown instruments machine rhythms cycle in 3/4 time. the vigorous peasant dancers, following an instinctive knowledge of the weight of fall, utilize their surplus energy to press all their strength into the proper beat of the measure, thus intensifying their personal enjoyment in dancing. here, in the transhuman ballroom, time stands still and values are being dissolved by numeric progressions. spiritually allied, the visitor, the singer and the peasant dancers short-circuit the present moment while the last falling snow slowly turns into rain. with walzerzyklus, atomtm returns to raster to complete his series that has once begun with liedgut and continued with winterreise. the 7 tracks, created in collaboration with russian singer lisokot, are subdivided into 3 pieces of 2 minutes each and 4 pieces of 3 minutes each, intentionally reflecting the 3/4 time of a classic waltz. throughout the release, lisokot’s delicate vocals are put into different relations to atomtms rather cool machine music, either complementing or contrasting each other. in the same line, the 3 shorter leitmotifs provide the main theme that is taken up repeatedly in the course of the release.

blocaus series is back and explores this time the deep side of things guided by the fearless awb lighting the way. the parisian based producer awb is well know to be the owner of taapion records with shlomo and pvnv and also released music on soma records and raw imprint. awb’s sound oscillates between deep / atmospheric techno, with film scoring influence which are reflected in this ep. he delivers 4 fantastic cuts including an outstanding remix by peter van hoesen all on the edge of an amazing melancholic and deep techno style.

trisomie 21 is a post punk band formed in 1981 by phillipe lomprez (vocals, drums) and herv? lomprez (guitar, electronics), two brothers from abscon, in the north of france. they began composing songs at the age of 16 while studying at school. the brothers were influenced by kraftwerk, the residents, yello, p.i.l as well as the films of george a. romero. their music consists of lush soundscapes that do not easily fit into any one category. lyrics are sung in english because in the north of france the duo sought to contradict the trend at the time for everything to be sung in french. musically their mood is melancholic and one can hear traces of joy division, durutti column and the cure.
